God Wants Us Well

Written by Larry Ollison, Ph.D
Did you know God wants us well? He wants us healthy. When the Hebrews went out of Egypt, the Bible says there was not a feeble one among them. Once I heard a radio preacher explain away healing using this story. He said God told Moses to leave the feeble people behind because they would just slow them down as they fled from Egypt.
Sometimes man will twist the scripture and go to great lengths to prove what he thinks is true rather than accepting God's Word just as it is written. God did not tell Moses to leave the sick ones behind. He healed them all and then sent them out of Egypt.
All through the scriptures, God has demonstrated that His will is for man to be healthy. He didn't create Adam with a bad leg. He didn't create Eve with asthma or arthritis. He created them whole and that is His perfect will for us.
Psalm 103:3 says He heals all our diseases. Do you believe that is true? God's Word says it. Either it is true or God's Word is lying. God does not lie. It must be true.
Now, when we take a verse like Psalm 103:3 and stand on it in faith, what does that mean? It means we believe God will perform His Word, and we act on it without fear. We never doubt that God is willing or able to complete His Word.
Faith is positive. The world is negative. We Christians cannot take the negative things of the world and mix them with faith and expect God to act on unbelief. We cannot turn away from faith and turn toward fear, worry and unbelief. Jesus said, "Let it be according to your faith" (Matt. 9:29). The implication is that if faith is in action, you will receive, and if not, well, let it be according to your faith.

My Son
When my son was born, he had pyloric stenosis, which is the tightening of a muscle around the bottom of the stomach. Food could not get into his intestines because the muscle was too tight. Instead of gaining weight, he lost weight. His condition worsened so Loretta took him to the doctor. The doctor immediately called the hospital and made arrangements for an operation that day. He told Loretta that without the operation, our son would die. He also told her that even if he survived, "He will always be 'puny.'"
Loretta immediately called me and we prayed. We prayed for God's guidance and wisdom. I knew that an operation on such a small baby was itself a risk. We felt led immediately to get a second opinion. We acted in faith. We didn't do anything crazy. Sometimes we Christians act in faith, and the world thinks we're crazy. Sometimes we act crazy and call it faith.
The second doctor told us there was a medication available that would accomplish the same thing as the operation. We used the medication on our son and he recovered. In fact, he recovered so well that when he was eighteen years old, he played on two state championship football teams and had football scholarship offers from several colleges and universities.
At six foot four inches and two hundred and thirty pounds of solid muscle, I would like to see the first doctor call him "puny" now.
If God is powerful enough to perform a miracle healing, and He is, then He is also powerful enough to work through doctors, and He does. The bottom line is that my son was healed and God gets all the credit.
